Zero Waste and Sustainability

Since 2021, Niska Day has improved its sustainability practices by encouraging attendees to sort their organic waste so that it can be composted. Two stations are staffed by volunteers the whole day to help sort food scraps, recyclables, and the rest (headed for the landfill) properly. Every bit of organic waste diverted from the landfill and instead composted helps decrease methane emissions.

Look for the two tents with "Sort it Right and Niska Day" signs, and we'll be happy to help. If you have a child who attends Craig Elementary School, you can also ask them about it! Craig has been composting cafeteria food waste throughout the year!

We partner with FoodScraps360 who hauls the organic waste away at the end of the day and composts it at the Bethlehem Compost Facility.
